Sally Washlow
Managing Member SW Consulting, LLC
Sally is an accomplished CEO with extensive experience on the leading edge of the consumer electronics and automotive aftermarket industries. An operations executive with cross-functional expertise in sales, marketing, and product development, Sally is adept at leading product innovation and market expansion while driving strategic organizational change. She is a hands-on leader, skilled at building high-performing teams and improving profitability through expense management, cost reduction, and outsourcing.
Most recently, Sally was Chief Executive Officer of Cedar Electronics in Chicago, a maker of radar detectors, GPS systems, dash cams, and other electronics, owned by Monomoy Capital Partners, a NY private equity firm. As CEO, Sally led the integration of the Cobra and Escort electronics businesses, managing a combined company with $180M in revenue and 300 employees in Illinois, Ohio, the UK, and Hong Kong. She drove strategic alliances, outsourced manufacturing to improve margins, and negotiated an innovative licensing deal that turned a break-even, two-way radio business into a 10-year revenue generator.
Previously, Sally was President of Cobra Electronics, with full P&L over a $130M business and direct management of product development, manufacturing, supply chain, business development, and sales and marketing. Sally improved product development, expanded into global markets, negotiated strategic licensing partnerships, and worked across departments to revise go-to-market strategies. She partnered with the CFO of the NASDAQ-listed business to explore strategic options after the acquisition offer from Monomoy in 2013, and drove M&A activities related to the sale.
Throughout her 15 years at Cobra/Cedar, Sally was heavily involved in driving innovation: launching new products, extending the life of existing products, and identifying opportunities in adjacent product categories. This work led to the launch of dash cam and mobile navigation products for truck drivers, branded radar detection and two-way radio products for major retailers and other partners, and a patented radar detector that was one of the first “appcessories” sold in Apple stores. She also developed a strategic relationship with the University of Illinois at Chicago to sponsor a class on innovation, which led to several patent applications.
Earlier, Sally was an account manager at Motorola and a national sales manager at LG Electronics, Zenith Division.
Sally has an MBA in Marketing from DePaul University, and a BA in Supply Chain Management from Michigan State University. She is member of the Executive Board and a past member of the Automotive Board of the Consumer Technology Association, and a member of the CTA Board of Industry Leaders.
Sally lives in Northbrook, IL, with her husband and two children.
